Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions may be answered below
YES. I am able to conduct ceremonies on any day at any time.
How long does it take for my marriage to be registered?
After your wedding I lodge all your documents within 3 working days. It may take 2 weeks after this for your marriage registration to be finalized. You will receive a notification as soon as your registration is complete.
How long is a marriage ceremony?
The length of your ceremony is up to you. In most cases it is around 20 minutes. It is something that you want to enjoy, not rush and it depends on just how you decide you would like to celebrate and how many elements we include. You have heaps of options to choose from to create your ceremony the way you would like.
What is a NOIM?
This is a "Notice of Intended Marriage" This form must be completed and lodged with me at least a month before your wedding. In some cases, under specific exceptional circumstances you may be able to apply for a shortening of time, but this is rare.
Can I marry my same sex partner?
Yes, you can. The law was amended in Australia in December 2017 for marriage to be redefined and the right to marry is no longer determined by sex or gender.
Can I marry in Australia if I don't live in Australia?
Yes, you can. You can travel to Australia from anywhere to marry. You will need to complete all of the documents and timing as required by law and it may be necessary for you to have an interpreter if you are not fluent in English.
How long before my wedding will you arrive?
I usually arrive about an hour before to set up my gear and check that everything is as you have instructed.
That gives me plenty of time to liaise with the venue coordinator, photographer, videographers, and/or musicians as needed. I can also keep an eye on the groom/bride in case they need a bit of TLC before their fiancé arrives!
How many weddings do you book in a day?
I like to put my heart and soul into your wedding, so I only commit to one wedding a day.
Do I need witnesses to my marriage?
Yes, you do. You need two witnesses 18 years or older. They must be able to understand English or you will need an interpreter. They can be family, friends, or complete strangers.
What Documents do I need to show you to get married?
You need to prove your age and identity. You can do this with your passport or your birth certificate and driver's license.
Any documents must be in English or translated by a NAATI translator. If you have been married previously you must show your Divorce or Death Certificate for your former partner.
Do you provide a PA system for my marriage ceremony?
Yes, I do. I have a professional system with microphones and blue tooth connectivity to play your music.
How do I change my name after marriage?
Changing your name after marriage is not a legal requirement and it is not an automatic process. If you want to change your name, you will need a marriage certificate issued directly from the Dept. Birth, Deaths, and Marriages in Queensland if you are married here in Queensland. You will receive an information pack for this from me following your ceremony.
